My man and I went to a ceilidh last week, which I love because it is all about dancing and having a great time (as opposed to just sitting about talking). I had never been to one till I started dating my bf and now I love them!
It was quite a young crowd and I think its true that younger Scots are getting more and more patriotic because EVERY guy there was kilted, informally i.e. just t-shirts and boots not the full formal outfit.

Anyway I had a great time as did my SO even though I was totally dead the next day (from dancing not drinking btw!!)

But one thing that got me in retrospect - I didn't even think of it at the time - but all the girls were in jeans. It seems that tartan skirts are nowhere near as popular as kilts are.

Now I know a kilt ISNT a skirt but I just thought it was a bit weird - us girls were the ones wearing the pants! Actually its quite cool in a way as well I think!

Hope I didn't offend, just wanted to share! LeeAnne xx

That about sums up our household, as well. Nothing at all odd with what you experienced, LeeAnne. I like it that way myself.

Yep, everytime I'm in my kilt, my wife is in pants. She hasn't worn a skirt in a long time. I think the last time was a wedding or a funeral. I wish we coould both dress the same - my way.

One of my favorite come backs to jeers about kilts being feminine is, "If I wanted to dress like a woman I'd wear pants."

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
