To be honest I thought so too. This seller does appear to be legit and I can find no complaints that his products aren't what he says they are. There is a patch on the inner apron with numbers and info on it. It lists a maker and various serial numbers. I might upload that after work and see if anyone finds a problem with it. Other than that it has all the hallmarks of army gear. as I said, tonnes of built in expandability, remarkably high rise and matt black buckles.

I will also say that despite the weight (which I am not certain about) it is a very well made kilt.

Maybe people can help me here. The Christie tartan of my other kilt is 16oz lochcarron. Is lochcarron fabric notorious for its roughness?

The reason why I question the weight of this blackwatch kilt is because the weave is very tight and smoother like all the other 13oz kilts that I have worn over the years. I don't have a 13oz kilt near me to compare the two so I am going off of memory.

    Thanks

This the label on the kilt. It looks legit to me but I could be wrong.

    What does the rabble think?

I have been trying to find a way to compare the fabric to find out. One thing that is starting to make me feel that it is more than 16oz I'd how tightly woven it is. When I feel a swatch of my 16oz Christie you can feel the threads but the bw is so tight it feels solid. Also the weight of it with shallow pleats is substantial. I am starting think my initial analysis was very wrong indeed.

It's certainly a proper army kilt and it doesn't look that old. I think I'm right in saying that army kilts are made in lighter weight cloth these days and not the old 22oz 'blanket' material, so it's probably 18oz or even 16oz. Also it may be worsted wool and not the rougher saxony that was used years ago. I don't think it would be medium weight though. Anyway, it's still a fine looking kilt.
The Kilt is my delight !

Checked What price glory and that site says it is a replica not current military issue. So I am happy with the verdict that it is a 16-18oz current issue BW kilt.

Thanks all for your input and for your compliments on my new addition.

Sorry for the length but it is a copy/paste from the browser.

I was about to flick it off but someone beat me to the punch.

Just so you know, the "time left" means nothing. They come straight back up. I found that out when I bought mine. ;)
