10% Sales tax? We dream of a 10% sales tax! Britain is currently 17.5% (Value Added Tax - same thing) and rising to 20% on 04 Jan 11. You don't want to open a shop here!

John:
All in good humor, but I think that is one of the reasons we are not ruled from Westminster.

Bottom line - sounds as if the Utilikilt retail store in San Francisco has yet to open. Anyone know if the plans are still in place or if plans have been abandoned?

I would have thought they would have had that opened by now... I just re-read the Summer Anti-Catalogue, and found no mention of their new location... I wish they would just open a store in the NW OH or SE MI area... (maybe even N. IN, Chicago area, or if they want to get into international - Ontario)

The last I heard is that the owner, Steve/Krash, is doing the construction work himself (the building was in need of extensive repairs, as it had been the site of an illegal fireworks explosion), and that when it opens it might also reflect some of his other interests, rather than being exclusively a Utilikilts store. We'll just have to wait and see.
Best regards,

I am glad to hear that Utilikilts is expanding their store fronts. I hope that this will also increase their turn-around time for kilt orders (two stores, twice the capacity).
If UK's success (10,000 kilts sold) in the Seattle area is replicated in San Francisco, then kilts will be that much further toward a general acceptance of kilts as an ordinary clothing.

Let's hope so. I was in Cheyenne, WY recently working and my co-worker & I saw a guy wearing a Utilikilt walking down the street and my co-worker was blown out. "Why is he dressed like that?" I just asked him if he had ever worn a kilt and explained that if he had, he would not have questioned it. (The kilt wearer in question should have ordered a longer one, though. I REALLY did not need to see the back of his thighs)
