4.5 earthquake near Norman, Oklahoma

Looks like it was a 4.3 Sorry about that.. .haven't had my coffee yet ;)

(actually, I'm seeing 4.5 and 4.3, close enough... you get the idea)

I didn't notice anything here. I wondered why Meers Ok. had a seismograph office.

Most of my friends in the D/FW area didn't seem to notice anything. I'm not sure if it's that we live on the second floor and most of them (I think?) live on ground level, or if it's the location, since I'm probably more north than most of them. Not sure. Just took me by surprise.

Yeah, it's so weird to discover things like that. I'm not too surprised to see that earthquakes happen in places like that, but still... I mostly worry about tornadoes, you know?

Another news link here. I'm in Denton county, very close to the Tarrant county line. The gas-drilling tremors they mentioned, we've never felt any of those since we're on the northern side of the metroplex.

It was quite noticeable in Stillwater, about 60 miles north of the epicenter. Sitting at my desk, the whole building shook for several seconds, hard enough that we checked to see if anyone had driven a truck into the loading dock or some other part of the building. At my parents' house in Norman, it rattled the windows and doors pretty hard. There doesn't appear to have been any major damage.

And USGS had it as a 4.5 and then downgraded it to a 4.3, so that's where the two numbers came from. And now I'm seeing reports that they've upgraded it to a 5.1, which would be one of the strongest in the state's history. (It appears that USGS is saying 4.3 and OGS is saying 5.1, FWIW.)
