If someone disrespected my House Rules (there are very few) then I'm afraid I would no longer count them as a friend and they would not be invited again and probably asked to leave at the time. Cutting a person off from drinking more is not always the solution even with a barman serving drinks as often people leave drinks lying around for anyone to pick up. Too tempting for those who can't hold back.

The only way is to ask them to leave. It may be harsh but I class it as the same as any other insult especially if they are pre-warned before and during the party.

    Thanks Peedyc,

You reminded me that is what happened to me in my boozing years. I ruined a lot of parties and pretty much made a fool of myself at friend's and relative's parties. My social life dwindled accordingly as I wasn't invited back.

Point is for the OP, is that lot of people cut alcoholic friends out of their social life without remorse.

I think that at this point, things will go smoothly... My wife and I have had a chance to sit down and consider the various strategies both discussed here and otherwise, as well as having spoken personally and privately to each of the guests who will be on the invited list.

By the same token, it has not been easy... I believe that I've already lost one (not so close) friend over it after he felt it necessary to belittle and ridicule my wife's polite request in a Facebook thread (inviting everyone to a binge-drinking event last week) to keep things in moderation. I messaged him back privately and it did not go so smoothly after that. Oh well. Friends like that I truly do not need.

Furthermore, my wife and I have decided NOT to attend a "fajita and tequila party" being held this weekend (organized by a friend who we are rather concerned about), which many people will be happily attending. It's all just a little too much for me at this point and when people ask me why I'm not coming, I will not hesitate to point out that weekly bacchanalias are just not my bailiwick anymore -- I've passed the age (and maturity) of teen-aged college students.
