Hmm... X-kilt material!
As much as I'm leery of HOS, I have bought one of their Children's kilts for my wee baern, and I'm sure she would be happy if Daddy would wear a matching tartan... At that price, I'm tempted to get a length of the fabric to try DIYing it into a pair of Traditional-Box-Pleated beaters... I wonder what the selvedge is like? Have you actually taken possession of some of this fabric? I'm interested in your evaluation.
I definitely trust buying it on eBay more than directly from the HOS site, too. Thanks for the link!

Otherwise, anyone intersted in what appear to be a couple decent deals on 16oz tartan in one of two Heritage of Scotland tartans should check out the two following ebay listings by their ebay store for their store brand HOS tartan and their store brand Heritage Black tartan, each for about 16gbp ($25US) per meter DW plus 10gbp shipping (normal price is 31gbp/m plus s/h to us ferners):

I kinda like the Heritage Black myself and would definitely consider wearing it, despite the HOS/Gold Bros connection, and figured some others might like the deals. Not bad to get 4 meters DW 16oz tartan for $102US plus another $16 shipping. Especially for those wanting to get into a heavyweight wool kilt at a reasonable price, this huge discount on tartan (compared to say $75 a yard for Strome) could put you in a handmade kilt at a reasonable price if you worked with one of the many kiltmaker on the forum to have them do the labor of the build up.
Only concern is that they will not list who is the manufacturer of the tartan---simply that it is custom woven for the HOS/Gold Brothers, but no by whom or where.

I think I just found THE CATCH! :-(
Yes, the price is £15.99 per metre; BUT, the Shipping is £10.00 per metre... So, that will be £25.99 per metre, or about $41.87/m delivered... or $167~ for 4 meters. :-/ Unless, you can trust that the £10 is only for the first meter, and that subsequent meters will be only £2 ea... Still.

The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.

Actually the shipping is 10gbp per order, not per meter, so it still remains a good deal, especially if you order more length.
