    " The Horror. The Horror."

It never ceases to amaze me what we humans will do to each other in the way of cruelty.

The perfect outfit would be the Orvis jacket with these pants, a pale pink IZOD polo with the collar up and topsiders with no socks, hair slightly tousled, smelling of Bay Rum and gin.

"Buffy, please do hurry now! Trey and Ginger will never forgive us if we miss the Regatta opening!"
Exactly. It's a preppie thing and this is exactly what Orvis is going for. Similar to wearing corduroy pants with embroidered pheasants or lime green/ coral pink socks with frayed khakis- it's producing a DESIRED effect, and not the result of some unintentional cluelessness about dressing.

I get the feeling that most folks here at Xmarks don't go in for the "preppie" look, so this may not make much sense. There's a parallel, though, with THCD. Some folks here think multiple patterns (tattersal shirt, striped tie, checked tweed jacket, tartan kilt, patterned hose, etc.) worn together are "garish" and a hot mess, when it is a very traditional way to dress and can be seen as marking someone as "in the know." In the same way, this sort of preppie clothing is more about in-group identifying behavior than some objective aesthetic. Just as other sociological groups have their own plumage (you'll never convince me that all Grateful dead fans are really THAT excited about tie-dyed t-shirts...), so do preppies.

So, if you look at this jacket and think it's a train-wreck, that's perfectly alright to the guy who's going to wear it!

Yeah, i remember them quite well.

And, in retrospect, they stunk too. But we were young and dumb.

    Where's the barf bag?

OK, my question is...what in Heaven's name would you choose for flashes to go with that coat???

Wow, I've cleaned bathrooms as a janitor and waited and bussed tables for the bar crowd in my day, and thought I'd never find anything in future that could turn my stomach. OK, I give.

    Groan.

I rise from my sickbed - a tummy bug with a sense of humour befitting a Marine NCO - and at 2.30am I am suddenly face to face with - THAT.

I think I feel a relapse coming on,
