Easier, actually. My wife and I took a Segway tour and she had no problem, even though she cannot ride a bicycle as she cannot balance.
As to the owner story, it helps to know it was the "new" owner who had just purchased the company. It was not someone truly familiar with either the Segway or necessarily the proper operation thereof.
I will consider a kilt if we do this tour again.
