Not wishing to advocate a monopoly, but I have had excellent service from the gift shop at the Scottish Tartans Museum.

I bought a few socks in a (real) kilt store near Bagpipes Galore (Edinburgh) last summer. They were the same as "Superior Hose" from www.bagpipecovers.com

Looks a lot better to me.

any color you like- so long as it has red in it...

I figure you can either choose red or go wild with red and black. Isn't there a tiny bit of blue in the Black Stewart? I'd echo that blue for the flashes. I dislike black hose because they remind me of Saxon dress hose, which look best when they are covered with trouser legs. I believe there is a tradition of formal use of red and I think red hose provide a good contrast while still matching the tartan.

One of the best black Stewart ensembles I've ever seen was a gentleman at one of our St.andrews functions wearing a PC, Black Stewart kilt with red&black diced hose with blue flashes. It just looked phenomenal. Keep that in mind also, although it will cost a little more.
