    Hello from Rhode Island

    Hi,
My name is Ernie. I found your site while surfing the net. I have been trying to trace my family's roots, but have not had a lot of success. Many dead ends. I did find my family name in a book of Tartans at the Scottish Festival last summer here in Rhode Island. I had always been told that our family was Irish, but never had a thought of being Scottish....sounds pretty good to me. Unfortunately I am not aware of family members around who can help confirm this. The book of tartans listed the Angus District for my family name, but no clan tartan. I have checked out this tartan and do like it. I am a hand weaver and have planned on weaving this tartan. I also am planning on making a kilt. I’m told by others, that this is an ambitious project. I do have some sewing skills, but never attempted such a project. At this time an weaving the tartan for a scarf. I am hoping to have this finished soon and would like to post pics when finished. I am looking forward to getting to know people here and anticipate many questions in the near future.

    Sincerely,

    Ernie

    From East Providence...
If I'm not scheduled to work, you might just see me there in an Angus tartan.

Welcome! One of my lines runs back to Angus, and you're right, it is a nice tartan. If you want to make a tartan yourself, be sure to ask Santa for a copy of Barb Tewksbury's book "The Art of Kiltmaking". You may already be aware that tartan for kilts requires a specific type of selvage, and if you need more
info there, PM Figheadair, a tartan consultant and expert and also a weaver.
Everyone is very helpful, just ask.

Welcome from Amelia county Virginia. The next time you are at a Celtic festival, stop by the Irish American Society and have them look up your name. That is where I found out that my family are really "Ulster Scots".
