    Christmas At The Cathedral

I am planning to attend the annual Christmas concert at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco on Monday, kilted of course. I'm thinking of wearing a black Argyle jacket with silver buttons. What I,m wondering is should I wear a white tuxedo shirt with black bow tie and three button vest or five button vest and four-in-hand tie? Or should I go with what I would normally wear to church?

First off, I assume this is in the evening? Would you normally wear black tie/tuxedo/dinner jacket to this concert? If the answer is yes, then by all means wear a dress shirt, black bow tie, and an evening waistcoat. If gentlemen wear suits to this event, then the Argyll jacket with a five button waiscoat, and a four-in-hand neck tie would work.

What do you normally wear to church?

I just checked the schedule of performances at Grace Cathedral and it would seem that the Argyll jacket, five button waistcoat, and four-in-hand tie would be the appropriate choice for the evening.

What to wear for the New Year's Eve screening of the 1925 silent film, "Phantom of the Opera" is totally up to you.

    JSFMACLJR,
    This event is from 7:00-8:30pm.
I've never been to one of these events before, that's why I'm asking for advice.
I normally wear a modified suit jacket, button down shirt, tie, kilt, day sporran and casual shows to church. Since it's an evening event, I would trade the day sporran for a black leather sporran.

    MoR,

Thanks for the advice. As for New Year's, I am attending a Black and White Ball and will be wearing the Argyle with tux shirt, three button waistcoat, and bow tie with evening sporran and dress shoes. Yes, I will also be wearing a kilt. lol

Great advice above regarding shirt/tie selection--but I'm VERY Jealous! Grace is an amazing house of prayer. Whenever I'm in San Francisco I make sure I take time to visit Grace. I've always loved the labyrinths and the Keith Haring chapel. A beautiful church--enjoy your Christmas!
