Thanks all for the warm welcome. We had a couple of nice hot sunny days since new years day when we had 3/4" of rain. My hometown of Rockhampton is copping the flood at the moment with nearly half the town of 75,000 underwater and the peak not expected until wednesday. When you consider that an area either bigger than Texas (for you USA follks) or bigger than France and Germany, over half of Queensland is flooded and more rain predicted. Towoomba is okay but having a few bad storms at the moment nearly every day. Just see what the next few months bring and then get back into my scottish country dancing for some exercise and fun and get my kilt out again.

We are watching the sad pictures of Rockhampton as I type this. There seems to be a statue of a bull(?) in your town. The airport is under water and it all looks very grim. I am so sorry. Take care, All of you.

    Hi Jock,
Rockhampton is the beef capital of Queensland hence the statue of the bull on the approaches to the town and in town. The platform on which the bull stands is normally about about 6ft above the roadway traffic island around it but as you can see from the photos on www.themorningbulletin.com.au it is not less than 3ft above the water. All road, rail and air is cut and only helicopters allowed for emergency services. Food is now coming in by them as the trucks were getting through from the north until last night. The river is still rising and expected to peak wednesday. over 40% of the town is under water. All my family and friends there are safe anyway.

Of all the flooding in Australia, the local news chose to show a picture of two guys loading "emergency beer supplies" into a boat. We do care more than that. Stay dry. Good Luck and welcome aboard.
