Since my kilt is in the Carolina tartan - and the kilt as we know it is a Victorian era garment - I went with Victorian era, North Carolina-themed buttons. I replaced all the buttons on my Argyle jacket and vest with these reproductions of the North Carolina state seal buttons worn by Tar Heel troops in the Civil War.

www.thebottonshoppe.com has lots of different styles. I have dogwood buttons on a jacket and vest that I wear. There's no rule declaring that civilians have to have square buttons on a PC.

No wonder: I spelled it wrong. Thanks, Artificer, for catching my mistake.

I got redirected to a cloth diaper boutique called the Bottom Shoppe and just spent an hour and a half fueling my other obsession

Ever so wonderful! I never would have imagined such a beautiful school of fish buttons! That really gives me a lot more freedom to be more creative!

Thanks for all the help and the cute baby pictures, too. I am not going to worry any more about the buttons since it sounds like I don't have to stick to any tradition. I saw the buttons on the Three Feathers site and they do look very nice. I also found different ones on ebay for a very good price, although they are only one size. I still like the picture of the man with the fish buttons and may consider just letting Mark choose whatever buttons he likes at the half-price sale at the local fabric store. I am in contact with someone who has a used Prince Charlie jacket that might work if it is long enough!
