Sure - I've found the critical thing is to make sure to locate the join carefully so that the bulky part of the join doesn't lie in the fold of the pleat. Same would be true for a knife-pleated kilt, but the pleats aren't as deep in a box pleated kilt, and you have to be a little more attentive to where the join is going to fall because there's less room to put it in.
