Oh what should I do....
OK....I have 4 yards of double width tartan custom run that has been quietly sitting in my shop waiting to be put to use.I'm at the peak of my normal weight gain for the year (Winter I go up, spring/summer I go down..Been that way all my life except when i got seriously fat working in a cubicle a few years back.) Anyway, I can make a proper 8 yard kilt with it, or a Box Pleat kilt with enough material left over for a vest and fly plaid. I now have more box pleated kilts than knife, and thats cool, because I absolutely love them. But this material is special, and I'm wondering if I should just use the whole length for an 8 yarder. The cons of this are that from about April till September it would not be wearable due to the heat here in Sacramento. I can wear box pleated kilts till about june till September (The summer months I'm TOTALLY Poly Viscose).
The material is the custom run that X did sometime back, and it is just absolutely stunning...I'm hankering for another 8 yarder, but I could get more from a boxpleat (Vest and plaid). So the question is what would you do? I had also contemplated letting Steve, Dr.T, or Keltoi make an 8 yarder since I've made it a point to have a kilt made by all the makers in N.A. . Ooohhh decisions......WHAT WOULD YOU DO???

You are going to have to decide for yourself - which will give you most pleasure - girding your loins with an 8 yarder or strutting your stuff in the outfit.
No one else can tell how you will feel.
Though I'm sure that there will be opinions in plenty on the matter.

Well
Well Josh, if you are happy with box pleat kilts, and can get a vest and plaid, in addition to the kilt, the question might be "Why would I want a knife pleat?"
You would admittedly wear it less often, it would give you less garments for the same amount of material, and would thereby limit your wardrobe options by taking the plaid and matching vest out of the equation for more formal events.
However, you must be "Hankering" for a reason??
Hmmmm, I don't think I've helped at all

I'm with MacMillan's son. You get more use from box pleat kilts, and you'll end up with "more kit" by going that route (kilt, vest, plaid). Since you've already got plenty of kilts in both pleating styles, it's not like you have a 'gap' to fill in your wardrobe for either one. So pick the one that you'll get the most out of, which sounds like the box pleat with accessories.

I would probably base my decision on how and where I thought I would likely wear that kilt, and whether I would ever really plan on wearing the matching tartan vest and fly plaid. Personally nothing swings like a nice 8 yard kilt, and you can always buy or make complementary colered vests. And how many times are you actually going to wear a fly plaid?
just my tuppence.

Why not make your self a double box pleated kilt? It would be new all around and I bet you would have enough to make a waistcoat.

I'll be "evil" here...
Why not a double-box pleated kilt?
Edit: that is awesome... Someone else had the same diabolical idea I did... And beat me to the suggestion.

Reason: Identical suggestion realization.... Doh

Hey guys-
Thanks for the input. I went ahead and made myself a boxpleat. It looks GORGEOUS and I'm absolutely happy I went his way. I'll post pics soon.
