Balmoral torrie

I am inquiring if there is some arcane reason why a black torrie can not be worn on a black balmoral ? I see that all black balmorals offered on line have red torries but other color balmorals can be ordered with a black torrie. I just want to be sure if I order a black torrie on a black balmoral it is not a cultural faux pas. Thanks for any help.

Well, I've ordered navy balmorals with navy toories and over quite a few years no one has yet said a word or even seemed to notice. Don't see why the same wouldn't apply to black.

I have seen black on black in past on ebay but not for some time. Most other coloured balmorals come with a self coloured toories, so I can think of no reason why a black toorie on a black balmoral would infringe on anyones cultural sensitivities or traditions.

Dunadd Trading Co in cahoots with Robert Mackie can supply you with any colour combination of Balmoral bonnet your hearts desire.

The red torrie has no political or religous significance as far as I am aware, it's just that it looks great, and has become the norm over the years.

I know that in "So You're Going to Wear the Kilt!" by J. Charles Thompson, he asks basically the same question as to why you can't typically get a toorie in another color. And actually has the instructions on making a toorie of your own to put on your bonnet.

May take a couple of tries to get a really good one but worth the effort. If you're a fly tier and have experience with doing deer hair caddis flies or suchlike, it'll be a breeze!

I made my own about 10 years ago. I used black and dark blue threads for a somewhat mottled look. I think it turned out nice.

Hmmm. Most of my customers who order black Balmorals have it made with a black toorie. I list all of the options since Robert Mackie will make them however you like.

Thought of his reaction when I read your post.

I think the dark blue (lighter than navy) Balmorals with the red torrie look very nice. That's just in my mind, though.
