It sounds like you are getting some good advice from lads who would know. Just be sure when the big day rolls around that you post some photos for us of your kit before heading in.

Thank you for that! I was curious myself. I had no idea the attendance was so high.

I've been quite surprised to hear that the Royals host such events. It sounds like a wonderful time and I would be blown away to open the mail one day to find such an invite. Makes me wish for older times when the world was smaller...

Thanks, Sandy, for the link. It looks like a beautiful setting for a beautiful (and LARGE) event.

    Interesting music

I enjoyed the video and was particularly interested to recognize I'VE GOT PLENTY OF NOTHING from Porgy and Bess being played. No editorial comment about the Government expressed, implied or inferred.

I've been on a couple of occasions too. I'd recommend the dark grey jacket +/- waistcoat and solid colour (not white - horrid but that's a personal beef) hose.

Seem to remember that I wore a striped shirt and regimental tie.

I never wear a sgian dubh but think that these days you might just have some trouble at the gate.

Just remember, it might well rain and to plan accordingly.

The Crail with waistcoat, white shirt and tie would be perfectly acceptable (it is, after all the Highland equivalent of a suit), although if kilted I would suggest that you buy, beg, borrow, or rent a black Argyle jacket and 5 button waist coat as this would be the same as ordinary morning dress. Wing collars are no longer worn during the day, so stick with a plain white shirt with a fold over collar.

But above all, polish, Polish, POLISH your shoes until they look as though they have been carved from obsidian.

And, of course, enjoy the Garden Party.
This is exactly the right advice. I could't have put it better. Enjoy the day.
The Kilt is my delight !
