Aye, thats what Ive decided to do. I got a nice piece of oak to work with for the now from a local hardware store. So I'm gona try cut the branch into 2 smaller pieces and maybe putting it in the hotpress, so it would be warm. Hopefully I'll have something to work with later on this year, and by that stage I hope my skills will have grow enough to make a nice sgian dubh from it

By the way, has any one ever heard it being pronounced "skeen dove"? As Im originally from Ireland, I would be more used to pronouncing the dubh in the Irish Gaelige way, which sounds similar to "dove" rather than "doo"?
I haven't really heard enough different scots gaelic dialects to know if some places here say it like that

I can't put my finger on the plans right now but I remember seeing a design for a box or cabinet for gently dehumidifying things that used one standard lower wattage incandescent light bulb as a heating element. Basic, cheap and easily replaceable...doesn't get too hot; there was a metal baffle between the light bulb and the main part of the box to diffuse the heat. If this is going to be a serious hobby, you might research putting something like this together to help move the process along. The key thing, though, is to dry stuff out gradually and under consistent conditions.
