Two of my favorite kilt days are August 1 and July 1.

August 1 being the anniversary of the Act of Proscription 1746, forbidding the wearing of Highland dress and July 1 being the repeal of that act in 1782.

I mean, hey....could you think of two better days to wear the kilt?

Any time I'm asked what the occasion is, that's the reason I give- I'm still alive, and that's all the special I need! Life is a gift and I intend to enjoy it. I encourage that to everyone I meet.

    Smile pastor and kilt

Dear Father Bill and the XMTS community,
Wonderful to see the litany of days for remembrances, celebrations and honours for the kilted clergy. I totally understand the sense of not wanting to draw attention and at the same time celebrate. I think the more we are comfortable wearing the kilt and the more our people see us in it, the more it becomes the norm. I am a United Church clergy person, new to kilt wearing, but appreciating the growing comfort of the congregation. I don't wear it a lot, but do when it feels right and good.

I noticed a recent post where the presbyterian congregation gave presented their pastor with a kilt in clergy tartan. How wonderful is that! A picture would be great. It also encourages the congregation to honour its scottish heritage as well.

My first day at church with my kilt on was the 125th anniversary of our congregation. In 1885, the first presbyterian minister was Angus Robertson. So, 125 years later a Robertson is serving the congregation with his partner and what fun it was to wear Robertson tartan!

I wonder if in London, you might like to host a kilt night on Tartan Day... April 6. I've got one in the works here. Just for fun!
