Look how low the pockets are. Do you think Lovat is wearing a converted jacket? There are none of the other typical kilt jacket treatments (e.g. epaulets, either of the highland-style cuffs, etc.).

I think that one needs to be very careful how one reads a picture. It is what it is for sure, but any further conclusions to be drawn from it, is pure conjecture.
