			Diced Hose Toppers...

I've seen plenty of patterned hose toppers, but only one or two places that actually offers hose cuff toppers (not talking about the toppers you wear with spats).
I'm having my wife attempt to knit me a black/green diced topper for my charcoal hose, but it appears to be a bit more work than she thinks I'm worth

What is the consensus on this particular "compromise" between full diced and just a partial dicing? Personally I like the look of a solid hose, but would love some dicing for those "in-between" formal events.

Finally, has anyone considered bias-cut tartan, maybe with some elastic sewn in, as a top-cuff for their hose? This might be an easier project... considering I have a small handful of lightweight blackwatch available currently. It would be tricky to do without "scrunching" up the tartan but I think it's doable.

Seconded! I have 2- one to match my Colorado state tartan, and one to match my Albannach. They are very nice! Well worth it.

Dunadd Trading Company offers solid hose with Argyle tops, which I think are a great compromise between solid hose and diced/Argyle hose, as I'll likely never have an occasion formal enought to merit wearing full Argyle hose.
I also noticed that Skye Highland Outfitters has also recently added diced and Argyle cuff toppers to their hose page which might also might be worth a look.

My wife will happily sell just the cuffs to anyone who wants to wear them with their own hose.http://newhousehighland.com/hose.html

I think the "shepherd's check" and "small argyle" patterns are close to what you are looking for.

I don't think I'd use the tartan cloth idea. Either go with the full cadadh (the whole sock made from the cloth) or full knit hose. I don't think the combination of a knit sock with a woven cloth cuff would look very nice, but I'm willing to be proven wrong!

I will have to post some pictures... I thought it looked pretty nice - I actually cut a couple of 6"x18" bias-cut swaths of a "black watch" bathrobe I had laying around and tucked them around my pipers hose cuffs and I thought they actually looked really good... I kept the swaths but my wife is actually sewing an elastic cuff for me as well...

That being said, I would absolutely love one of your shepherd's check pattern but in green/black instead of red/black (it will likely be worn with either Davidson or Black Watch with red garters) ... that is pretty much exactly what I am looking for.

Matt, I have a quick question that hopefully you can answer - how do the House of Chevoit hose fit gentlemen with larger (18.5") calves? Standard hose kill me, so I wear pipers hose mostly as they afford some stretch.

I'd recommend the fully fashioned version of their hose, which are specifically made for wider calfed gentlemen.

Joshua, this is one pattern we have used. Something like this with a few inches of 1x1 ribbing to tuck under your hose might be feasible.
