If by Argyll, you mean a kilt jacket with gauntlet cuffs and epaulettes, I wouldn't wear it with trousers.
If by Argyll, you something like the more stripped down tweeds that HRH the Duke of Rothesay likes to wear, then you might have a case.
A kilt cut jacket has a shorter waist than most Saxon jackets and a sporran cut-away. There has been a trend in non-kilt menswear in the last couple years towards the same thing!
