Fake Scots Titles

I only meant to point out that even the Imperial Stormtroopers in Star Wars, like British regulars, are mostly just ordinary guys trying to do their jobs. In fact, I believe we have at least one "Imperial Stormtrooper" on the forums.

I'm not disagreeing at all with your defense of Tories and redcoats. I have some ancestors who served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and some who I suspect were, if not active Tories, at least had loyalist sympathies. Many of them migrated north across the St. Lawrence after the war.

I have at least one Loyalist in the family tree as well.

I'm sorry, but as a geek I'm compelled to point out that the Stormtroopers in Star Wars are genetically enhanced clones bred for combat and obedience, not conscripts.

Er, by conscripts do you mean recruits? I believe the British Army was a professional fighting force during the troubles with the North American colonies. It was the Royal Navy that had to fill its ranks by other than voluntary means.

As for Stormtroopers, Wookieepedia indicates that they were divided between clones and non-clone recruits during the original trilogy era. Wasn't Kyle Katarn a Stormtrooper? I seem to recall Han Solo being one as well, but Wookieepedia says he was in the Imperial Starfleet.

At the St. Patrick's Day parade I met a guy that mentioned I can call him a lord. He then reached into his wallet to show me his laminated card that's shows he "owns" 1 square foot of land on a Highland estate...LOL. I just smiled and remembered what my mom taught me "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything".

He wasn't being obnoxious, but I almost laughed.

If these folks who "sell" tiny parcels of land with an accompanying title actually did it in the name of conservation and gave titles that didn't fly in the face of Scottish heritage and tradition (Friend of Lochaber, Defender of Lochaber's Natural Heritage, etc.), I would be behind it 100%. Given the way that it is advertised, however, I think far too many people are being hoodwinked into thinking they actually have a legal Scottish title. Those that don't think this may be doing it for a bit of fun, but they're still helping to keep these shysters in business.

And those schemes really pale in comparison, as Jock Scot has said, to those that style themselves as nobles, build up a following, and threaten those that might expose them. To me, these are the very worst types; pretending to be something they are not and using a made-up title and naïve followers to intimidate others.

Both should really be stopped, and I applaud your efforts to do so!
