    Glad you managed through it.

I live in fear until I get my upgrades done so I can use RAID. I have, on the HTPC, over 1.5T of data. Very difficult/expensive/time consuming to backup.

Well, so far everything, though different, seems just fine with Windows. I have to use a screen reader, and that takes a bit of tweaking.

I also have a couple of older programs that I need to figure out how to install and run on 7... or just replace.

Beep beep beep - thou shalt back up! (the third commandment).

Anyone have RAID 5 working on a PC, or better yet, a RAID 5 network appliance?

To be fair, I manage a suite of 40 or so computers. On the old MacOS 9.1 they were a beast to maintain. On Windows 2000, XP, or 7, I've not had any major problems. OK I did lose one but that seems normal over 6 years.

    Welcome back Ted

Thanks, MacBean. I don't like the feeling of dread that has built up related to the computer after this. Afraid to put it to sleep because it might not wake up; afraid to go to sleep because the computer might not work when I wake up...

Don't put it to sleep, just let it hibernate automatically after a 20 min period of non-usage. It takes only about 5s to wake up again. This feature alone makes Windows 7 worthwhile.

Ya, it's just that feeling that something is going to stop working, but it's not as scary as it had been. I will try out the hibernate feature.

I have the suggested Windows 7 book now, and it does seem to explain everything, so have started going through that.
