Reason: Disambiguation
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I'm thinking those midiclorian supplements are a rip off. I STILL can't mentally fetch the remote when I'm laying on the couch.

For a more casual kilt I LOVE the brown ones and have been dying to get a similar one myself. Weathered.

Easy choice
Modern, because tartans will be around forever...Grandmothers won't.

Modern first.
I would go for modern. In caithness the biggest clans are Gunn's and Sinclairs and usually wear their modern at highland games etc. For an evening out or less formal then the weathered would be ok but I would go for modern first and get the weathered later when you can afford it as a second tank.

Hi
I voted "Modern" but that's because I like a bit of colour. If only kilts weren't so expensive...you could have both! ;-)

Oh for more money to buy more kilts!

I used a very old and traditional way of selecting the tartan for you...
It was heads so it was weathered.

While I'm sure I've seen illustrations of a weathered tartan being worn with black tie, it's also my opinion that the modern colors tend to "dress up" a bit better than weathered colors do -- if that factors into your decisionmaking at all.
I'm in complete agreement with this line of thinking. I do love "weathered" (reproduction) tartans, but they present two issues to think about:
1) They are a recent invention, by DC Dalgleish mill, and thus non-traditional.
2) While kilts in reproduction colours look stunning with Day Dress, all that brown looks a bit odd with Evening Dress, to my eye.
That Modern Colours sample looked very nice, not the extremely dark late Victorian colours, but with the lighter shades of the 18th and early 19th century. So, the name "Modern Colours" is a bit of a misnomer: that sample looked quite old and traditional.
So I voted, by a narrow margin, for the ironically named "Modern" sample, both on grounds of tradition and versatility.
(We sometimes forget that our "ancient" "reproduction" "weathered" and "muted" colour schemes are all recent inventions.)
