New to kilts: Please help me make some sense of it all

So to answer this question: It is going to be a everyday/do everything kinda kilt. Of course that does not mean black tie affairs but I want to be able to wear it hiking or throw a polo shirt on and go to a business casual event. I dunno if that makes sense or is possible but is my thoughts.
