No pipe band competition at Glasgow (KY) Highland Games
Got the following email a few weeks back from the Director of Piping and Drumming for the Glasgow (KY) Highland Games:
Stealing from Mark Twain - "News of our demise has been greatly exaggerated."
Unfortunately for this season, the Glasgow Highland Games will be unable to support a Piping & Drumming Competition. The Board confirmed this at last night's meeting. They do intend this to be a one-year hiatus though - so please keep the event on your calendars for 2012.
My recollection of the Glasgow games is that this won't have too much impact on the games themselves given that the pipe band competitions are a pretty good distance from the main events, but given that the pipe bands are my favorite part of any highland games (sometimes watching, usually competing), I'll need some convincing to attend.

Well, Kenneth, since the competition isn't going on, and LPB isn't available (not in enough numbers to field a performing band) you won't be seeing me there. My pocketbook won't stand the strain of the fuel and lodging costs. Not that I'd be a draw for you anyway.
Besides, if you're going to KSW, you'll see me there, and that's just three weeks earlier.
(For those that don't know, I'm one of the co-directors of the contest and have been involved since about 2002. I was waiting to post the info about the band contest until someone asked who was going.
The pipe & drum competitions aren't so far away from the main field that they can't be heard - as long as the professional entertainers aren't deafening everyone. As I stated on another forum regarding the location, there were complaints in the past about the contest being up on the main field, both from the competitors and the spectators, among others. Our current location is the best compromise.)

Reason: Clarification...
