    A belt would be good

All in all, just fine. If you are not going to wear a vest/waistcoat then a wide kilt belt would be good.

Everything I've ever read states the top of the sporran should be two to three inches below the the top of the kilt, but no more. Please note though, I'm a beginner in all this.

I don't know if there's a hard-and-fast rule which can be stated in specific inches, but rather a range of things that "look correct" to experienced kiltwearers.

I always like to go back for a broad overview of things. Here you see the sporran worn more or less the same height over the centuries:

But for some reason it became a bit of a fashion in the 19th century to wear the sporran rather low. This was done both by civilians and in the military:

Today, wearing the sporran that low would look "wrong".

I also see very often, especially in current photos of models wearing Kilt Hire outfits, the wearing of the sporran too high.

Re: Sporran Height - A hands width below the belt is the safe bet for most sporrans and bodytypes.

Yes, but how do I get a bonny lass to put her hand there so I can measure properly?
