I have seen that thread. The problems stem from the don'ts. If folks just focus on the do's things go much smoother. On the other hand if everyone is overly nice newbies, like me, don't get both sides of an issue.
For a newbie reading some of the old contentious threads can be quite educational and everyone else doesn’t have to relive them.

[QUOTE=The Wizard of BC;968166I am also going to lead by example. We all learn best by example.
This forum is all about photos. We have a saying, "No pics, it didn't happen." Well, guess what. I have a personal style. It is not the right style, it's not a wrong style. But it is my style.
How can I possibly offer my belief in my style without pictures of myself? How can someone state "this is how we do it" and not back that up with pics of themselves doing it that way? And it is even worse if they post a pic of someone else then state "That is the way we do it." Sorry, that reasoning just doesn't hold water. [QUOTE]
This was the best part of a great post Steve!
My feelings too! Talk the talk, walk the walk.

The members who post pictures of themselves usually show what they look like to the public eye. When they do this they are saying "Here is what I want to look like" and "Here is what I am comfortable with". I doubt anyone here would be rude enough to criticize those type of photos.
The pics are a good way to show just what members out there are wearing and the variety of styles possible. If it works for you- use it! If you wouldn't wear it like that- show us what you would wear.

I hate them! I would never be caught dead in one, especially with the kilt!
Well, except in cases like this:

or this:

Now you’re making me sad. I lost my favorite olive crusher in the San Juans on a trip to bag a few 14’ers. I really miss that old hat.

Compare and Contrast
rurouni2111: Just so you don't feel too bad (and, of course, you shouldn't) about wearing a Fedora with your kilt, check out the hat I wear with mine.

As you may know already "Jeep" stands for "Just Empty Every Pocket" .... But, kilts don't have pockets. .... Shut up! .... Jees!
In case you're wondering, I dry my hose on the exhaust manifold. It only takes a few seconds, but they do shrink a bit. ;-)

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

However, in warmer climes outwith Scotland I can see the sense of a panama, or the Tilly type hat.
Jock and "fore 'n aft".

There are very few days fishing when I would not wear a tie.
