    New tank, 13oz or 16oz

I have 3 choices from my local supplier in Wick as follows...

    http://www.mcallans.com/shop/products_kilts.asp?cat=12

Classic House Of Edgar Tartan Kilt Price: £250.00 A standard 13oz tartan weaved by one of the finest mills in Scotland hand-stiched into a high quality 8 yard kilt by a traditional kilt maker
Classic Lochcarron Tartan Kilt Price: £250.00 A standard 13oz tartan weaved by one of the finest mills in Scotland hand-stiched into a high quality 8 yard kilt by a traditional kilt maker
Premium Lochcarron Tartan Kilt Price: £280.00 A heavy weight 16oz tartan weaved by one of the finest mills in Scotland hand-stiched into a high quality 8 yard kilt by a traditional kilt maker
In MacLaren modern. It seems that the extra £30 for the 16oz would be well worth it.
    Does the rabble agree?

Yes I would go with the 16/17oz tartan, if you can get the tartan you want in it.

For several years I've been wearing a very nice 13oz Lochcarron fabric kilt which I got because the Strome in the same tartan had colours which I didn't like as much. (Funny how nearly every one of the several colours in that tartan differed between the 13oz and Strome.)

But recently I got a new kilt in Strome and I like the feel of it so much more.

Yup. I estimate you are far enough north that 16oz won't be too hot ever, and warm enough deeper into the colder parts of the year.

By all means, go with the 16 oz. I have never regretted going heavy, but I have regretted going lighter . . . depending upon the mill.

I'll vote for the 16oz as well. Both of my kilts (5 yd and 8 yd) are Locharron Strome.

Having just re-experienced the breeze(after 43 years) that you have up there, whilst fishing the Thurso for the last 3 days, I would go for the 16oz-------heavier if you can get it!

    Ordered tank

I called in the shop in Thurso and after looking at the fabric samples decided to go for the 16oz Strome from Lochcarron in the MacLaren Ancient tartan. The kilt itself is made locally.
I now jones for 6 to 8 weeks.
