There was a time women were prohibited from wearing pants to work.....

Not sure where you work, but double check your companies policies in the area of diversity and, as mentioned, your right to appeal the decision. Then you can decide what you think is best.

    Good luck.

I would talk to your HR department, because technically this is discrimination against your ethnicity. However, I agree with everyone else, if you can find a tie in your family's tartan, wear it.

I did ask him to explain which part of the dress code it doesnt comply with... still waiting...

Pretty bummed about it, but I guess national pride might be enough to spur me into dealing with all the other discrimination issues i've had to put up with over the last couple of years... god help you if you're a foreigner in an american water company...

    Just venting...
Just put it on Friday after work and meet us at the tent and we'll lift a pint (or three) in honor of those who can wear them to work!

Given that it's National Tartan Day (not national Kilt day), I don't see what all the fuss is about. Because I'll be buzzing about Washington DC that day I am expected and required to be kilted. If that wasn't the case I'd wear a tartan tie and be done with it.

Git thee to the Goodwill store and start looking for the single most obscenely tartan sportcoat that ye can find....

...and maybe a letter from the Department of Highland Security to let your admin know that we don't take kindly to this kind of discrimination. I recommend that you look up the proscription of tartan act and anonymously post a copy on the bulletin board at work....like they wouldn't ever guess that you were the one who did it...

Well apparently we dont appear to have a diversity officer... or at least the CEO couldnt tell me who it was... he did however mention that he was at a wedding in Kenya attended by a Scotsman whose father was a woodworker and had made him a wooden kilt - I know, pics or it didnt happen... already asked for...

He also didnt understand why id been told the kilt was unacceptable... they encouraged people new jersey office to dress for diwali last year...

So looks like the kilt is a go... i do have to put on a brown bag lunch event, which was suggested to be on Scotland, but i suspect will be on Scots contributions to the US... and the rest of the world...

My proposed outfit... shouldnt be toooooooooooooo controversial..
