Yes, they are! I have 2 already. I've got 3 that I want to get.
1. A Sword with a Rose wrapped around it, dedicated to my kids. my son's middle name is Owen (which means Young Warrior - the sword) and my daughters' middle name is Rose (If you need that one explained ...... )
2. A Shamrock on my right calf
3. The aforementioned kilted warrior on my left calf.

Very respectfully, here's my 2 cents ... go with the idea, but clean it up a bit. I say lose the cape, fix the sword and belt as Woodsheal advised, add a slouch cap. It looks a little "cartoon viking, over the top" to me in its present state. Have fun, and post pics. After the fact, you'll get nothing but complements, so if you want honest opinions, get them before the tat is permanent.

Damn, I'm new to uploading from the web. Found a picture on Flickr but can't upload it. I used the wrong term for the hat. I'm thinking of the knit berets as seen at ren faires by gents in great kilts wearing claymores on their back.

Something like this. This is the best I could find on photobucket. This is not me or anyone I know, the photo came on a search for great kilt.

The picture you used looks like a large-ish Balmoral (albeit in Black Watch tartan), more probably a Tam.
Most Balmorals are a little bit bigger than a French beret, but not by much, with a toorie (some describe it as a puff-ball) on top and ribbons at the back like a Glengarry (which on the Balmoral are usually tied).
The Tam-O-Shanter is a bigger, more casual version of the Balmoral. Similar in style, but often made of tartan instead of felted wool, and no ribbons.

Thanks for the explanation and style lesson! Were any of these knitted?

I suppose you could have seen a knitted Balmoral or TOS. I've not been to a Ren, but my impression is a lot of their apparel is hand-made/home made.
Most commercial versions I've seen are either felted wool (for most Balmorals) or tartan (for most TOS's).
