Hose/Flashes with tall boots?
I have an opinion question for y'all...
What do you think about wearing kilt hose and flashes with tall boots? I am looking to buy a pair of tall leather boots (almost knee-high) from Renaissance Faire this year and don't know if I will be able to wear my hose and flashes with these boots. Any thoughts? Anyone out there already do this? Anyone have pictures of them in their kilt with tall boots?
Thank you for your comments.
(And... hello from Socal, this is my first post on these forums. I am a kilt wearer of a couple years now. In the past I would just wear my converse shoes under my kilt with kilt hose and flashes)

I have been kilted full time for 3 years and wear lineman boots all the time though I don't wear flashes on a 17 inch boot the flashes stick out like wings onto of my boots and I don't wear tradition kilt hose due to the wear and tear from the lineman boots.

I sometimes will wear flashes and hose with my 7" high black boots. Usually looks pretty good. I just wear hose that match the main color of the kilt and flashes that are another color that is in the kilt. Never had anyone say it's a bade thing

In my sometimes humble opinion I say no to hose/flashes with tall boots. I doubt enough of the hose would show to compliment either of those parts of your kit. I wear boots with my kilts from time to time and wear long socks but not real hose and no turn down.

I would humbly say "No" to the flashes. They tend to be more dressy. Kilt hose or just long socks are great with boots.

How about keeping the flashes and foregoing the tall boots?

This IS an option... but I've been looking forward to getting a pair of Native Earth 8 button boots for a while now. If I don't go with the boot, then I'd get a pair of ghilies. I should probably get some traditional foot wear eventually.
Now you have me rethinking my whole shoe vs. boot dilema, Jock Scot.

I wear normal hose and flashes with 6-eye docs when going super casual. Knee-high boots (no offense to those that choose to wear them) don't look quite right to my eye with a kilt, but if there is a utilitarian need to wear high boots with your kilt, more power to ya.
The knee-high renfaire boots are about as period correct as Conan the Barbarian, by the way. Be wary that you might turn out looking like half a pirate, half a highlander... it just reeks of "costume".

I saw someone do that once... He also left the socks out and was wearing sandals... with flashes wrapped around his legs.
So onto the question- I personally think the look is rather silly. The flashes would fall over the tops of the boots, which being tall, eliminate the need for the flashes, anyway! The point of the garters is to hold the hose up. So if you already have knee high boots, what is the point of the flashes? And this especially if you're wearing Renaissance boots (Katskill mocs?). Flashes are very modern, as are woven hose, and look all the more out of place with Ren garb. I do wear flashes with boots, but only when it's cold out and the hose are needed to keep my legs warm, and then, my boots are only slightly higher than ankle height- work boots! And even at that, I don't particularly like the look. It's just the most practical thing for me personally to do. So there you are. My thoughts.
Another thing to consider (coming from the perspective of an historical reenactor) is the white hose. I am naturally repelled by them for many reasons, but in "period" garb, they look even worse than in modern garb! The knee high boots, while not period as was pointed out, at least give the illusion of being period much better.
