My First Highland Broadsword Bouts

Our group has been practicing Highland Broadsword for some time now and will be having a seminar coming up in August and will be demonstrating the art at a Highland Games and after a local Kirking of the Tartan in November. These two videos I'm in my LSU gold. I wasn't kilted as this was just practice, but we will kilt up when we demo for the public. Just thought the gang here might enjoy this.

You guys aren't using steel blunts in those videos, are you? I can't tell on my computer.

If so, get much more protective equipment before you do anything else. If not, and you're using wood, good on you! Be careful, keep training hard and often, and don't be afraid to take a good hard wack every now and again.

Yeah, it can leave some good welts and bruises. But as long as you have a helmet, a hand guard, and a cup, you're okay.

I challenged my cousin to a sword fight this weekend. I whipped his butt- not because he's not a good martial artist, but because he leaves himself open. He would lean forward, exposing his right shoulder. I see the guy in the white shirt doing the same thing. But it looks like you guys are doing a lot of good things!! You're obviously working really hard. Keep up the good work. And you should get onto YouTube and search for "Bryan Hunt Nut Shot." The two guys in that vid are people that I fight wit. It's hilarious, and shows the need for a good cup- or sporran. My sporran has preserved my manhood on more than a few occasions.

We have Chris Thompson of the Cateran Society to thank for our progress. He's been an excellent mentor to us, despite the many hundreds of miles distance.
A cup is very important, we learned to wear them the hard way. Since I don't practice in my kilt, a sporran would look pretty silly.

Fencing with broadswords? I fence but I don't think I can get my Coach to buy us all broadswords, no matter how much fun it looks haha

I would love to learn broad sword officially. All our coach has is regualr foils and epees. I do wear padding and go at my friend with a blunted baskethilt and spikeless target, whilst he has a claymore. Its fun enough but not satisfying.
Is there a place to buy actual broadsword gear?
