In fact I think that the "English Oaks for ships, Scottish Oaks to stoke the fires of industry" command came from a royal throne quite a bit before Victoria...if in fact it is true.

Redshank, I just want to say that I find the picture of the bridge at the head of Loch Awe to be wonderful, and it reinforces the conviction that I will walk there, someday.

Alan do you know who actually said the"English Oaks for ships" thing? I have to confess that I have not heard that ever said before.

Spent a day on the Glencoe hills yesterday. Fantastic weather followed by a spell in the Clathaig Inn :-)

Left home at 0530, started climbing at 0650 in full winter kit and by 0830 was in shorts and T-shirt. No-one else around. Off the hill and in the pub by 1300. Great to be out again.
