Toured this one many years ago. If you like "interesting and off-beat" this one is a must see.

Southern Africa also has its castles, of one kind or another.
The most famous is the Castle of Good Hope, in Cape Town, which remains a military headquarters, its role since its construction in the late 17th century.

Here is its entrance:

And the famous Kat balcony which is roughly in the middle of the central part of the castle. This part of the building served as the residence of Dutch and British governors. The soldiers in the picture are dressed in early 19th-century uniforms and are taking part in a ceremony called the changing of the keys:

At Noetzie, on the coast east of Knysna, Western Cape, is a collection of “castles” built as holiday homes by a Rhodesian family many years ago:

Namibia boasts a number of castles of one sort or another. Fort Namutoni, built to guard the far north of German South West Africa against raids by the Wambo people, is now used as a lodge for visitors to the Etosha Pan National Park:

A German nobleman had Schloss Duwisib built for him in the highlands of south-central Namibia:

And in a part of the capital, Windhoek, is an area known as Klein Windhoek where there are three castles, of which this is one:

Mike

Mike, thanks for adding those photos to this thread, they aren't in Arkansas, but they are most interesting.
One of the tornadoes in the southeast U.S. this week must have picked up this thread and blew it across the Atlantic to South Africa. Now after this brief visit to South Africa, maybe it can find it's way back to Arkansas.
Our thoughts and prayers to all those who lost family members, friends, homes and/ or businesses to the tornadoes.
