"Young, understated and strong" I like it!
-
Dour, sombre and inappropriate for a wedding tartan. Hate it!

Eah. I can take it or leave it.

Weak? It may be, but McCall's do a range of Pride Tartans exclusive to their outlets.
My spies in Aberdeen tell me these hire out like hot cakes amongst the non affiliated... apparently.
I see nothing wrong with that and don't think it particularly weak. It's great quality Scottish fabric made into kilts by high caliber Scottish Kiltmakers and in a struggling industry that can't be too bad.

When I looked at the first picture I thought it was a fairly understated tartan and thought little more. The next set of pictures makes it seem more interesting. Then I thought: If that was pleated to the blue stripe, it would look great! So I've changed my mind to "I like it" although I'm not sure "young, understated and strong" works for me.
Just had another look and pleating to the white stripe could work too. I think.

If you had read carefully I actually like the tartan, I just find the concept of creating a tartan unofficially associated with the Royal Wedding a weak (or lame if you will) concept.
I also happen to like McCalls, almost left the Royal Mile location with a hunting tweed Argyle a few years ago but was reminded how much money I had already spent that trip. I wish them nothing but success.
