Selkirk Butcher Wins Haggis Title
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotlan...tland-13359427
A Scottish Borders butcher is celebrating taking the top prize at the Scottish Haggis Championships in Perth.
Darren Hoggan saw off nearly 100 rivals to win the prize for Selkirk business J&A Waters.
The championships are held every two years with competitors from across Scotland vying for the title.
Mr Hoggan took over the Borders butcher's shop four years ago and only recently changed the recipe for its haggis to suit his tastes.
He said sales had risen since and he hoped the award would allow them to continue to increase.
"It is actually the first time I have ever entered the competition and I just changed the recipe in January," he said.
"So I thought, why not, I'll give it a go."
Mr Hoggan said he was pleased to have brought the title to the town.
"It is nice to have the number one haggis in Scotland," he said.
"We sell a lot of haggis as it is, but hopefully people will hear about this and come from all over to sample my haggis."
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

Perhaps the new recipe might make the haggis edible?

Noblesse oblige, Jock. Sometimes, we just have to do our duty for Queen and country and all that. After all someone's got to do it.

At my time in life, I am more than happy to stand back and let that intrepid "someone" not be me!

Aww, come on, Jock. You know you sneak out in the middle of the night to get your haggis fix.

I still remember the taste of the haggis at the cafeteria in the Edinburgh Marks & Sparks (1979). But when you are a hungry university student on holiday, you will eat almost anything cheap and filling.

In the words of a late and great actor starring in many a "Western" who had a good repertoire of one liners:-

I'm not a great actor, and I'm often late, and I use that expression all the time. ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I wonder what this butcher does that makes his haggis better than other haggi?
