I vote for custom colors. Delay is acceptable.

Hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks, depending on whether we wait for samples of other existing colours or decide to go custom.

    Quick question...

If we go custom dyes, will we be able to recreate the set in the future, or is this a one time kind of a thing?

This is going to be a one shot deal no matter what. If we go custom dye, we're pretty much guaranteed that this will be a totally unique fabric. Since a small order would most likely need to use stock tread or pay $$$$$$$ for custom dye.

Edit: I can confirm that the dyeworks fire in Selkirk is NOT the one that Dalgliesh uses, so we've dodged one there.

I think we're best going with a custom dye. Everything about this process is bespoke - a one off tartan set, with a unique name and provenance, for a small group of people, through the only mill capable of making custom orders - why not add customised colours which match the design?

I think it'd do no justice to the design or Artificer's vision to settle for "good enough" - the striking acid green stripes and almost pitch green background look fantastic on the PC screen, and to replicate those colours as close as we can would only further enhance the end product. This is a once in a life time opportunity - why risk hitting the mark over a couple of weeks?

    I vote for custom
For those who understand, no explanation is necessary; for those who don't, none is possible.

Dalgliesh said that for the amount we're ordering, custom dyeing would be minimal/negligible cost increase.

I was hoping to have some colour chips scanned and posted (since it appears, based on current feedback that we're going to head for custom dye), but, sadly, the Elder gods have conspired against me again and decided to drop a rather large tree branch onto my garage roof (and a bit of the house). So once the trimmers come and cut the thing up, I get to patch the roof.

Thank goodness for flat roofs. Easily repaired for minor damage (and based on what I could see in the storm last night, the actual damage doesn't appear too great.)

I guess it's time for my two cents. Ryan's been talking about this movement for a while now with much excitement, so I was motivated to spend half of my afternoon reading the entirety of this thread. While not a dyed-in-the-wool Lovecraft fan, I could be a fan of Lovecraft dyed-in-the-wool. I think it's a fantastic idea, and supporting a worthy industry collectively is my favorite part of what's happening. I've enjoyed my recent education on Cthulhu and Dagon, and I'm looking forward to watching pleats swing in the Kilt That Should Not Be. I also support going for custom dye. The purple in the tartan picture is grayish and cool, while the purple sent by the company is closer to that of a red clover. While you're adjusting your greens, don't forget that one! Also, take as long as you like. It'll give me a while to think of how to work tentacles into a bonnet...
