How to tie any tie knot

I was looking looking on the net how to tie a bow tie (never having worn one other than a clip on) and found this site. For normal ties, I usually use a half or full windsor but had never heard of a Pratt knot. There are links to other sites tie related on the resources page. So here ya go.

That is good. Nice to see it all simplified like that.

The Pratt knot is a new one to me as well. But it looks like it would avoid the lopsided look of a four-in-hand knot. I'll have to give it a try when I get home. (Don't want to be messing with the wardrobe at work.)

    Thanks for the tip.

thank you. I've always hated the lopsided-ness of the four in hand.
I've gotten out of the habit of ties - last time I was attempting a half-windsor and ended up with a four half in handsor. Felt a bit of a Pratt. (rimshot)

Haven't tried it at the mirror yet, but the Pratt on initial view and review looks like it might be a half Windsor with a half gainer. Found it interesting that he didn't discuss getting a proper dimple, and centering same.

Strange, I kind of like the "lop sidedness" of the four-in-hand on a thick wool tie. That's what I used in my pictures up in the gallery.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

The Pratt was the first knot I learned when wearing a tie. My dad taught it to me. With the width and density of the ties I wear, its still the best knot for me.

My problem is getting the length of the finished tie the correct length for a kilt. Mine come out too long or too short. I guess I have been doing them for a length suitable for pants for so long I can not get it right for a kilt.
