Anyway, if you like boots, wear 'em...
Fromn the USA Kilts website

You could also try the white knee sox and black dance ghillies look but that does kind of explore territory that you might not be comfortable in.
If you have a pair of comfortable black flats, that works, thoough I know you said you weren't a flats kinda girl.

The women athletes mostly all wear athletic shoes of some sort of another. Jeannette Grace is a local lady, the mighty mite and she actually wears a real kilt, as in mens length, not a mini kilt. She goes bare-legged with athletic shoes and I always think she looks great. She's not some huge monster, either.

Adriane Blewitt is the current womens world champ and she wears a full kilt with knee socks and flashes no less, pretty often, and I think she looks phenomenal.

sometimes Adriane skips on the socks and goes bare-legged, with athletic shoes. Then again, Adriane is not your average woman.

Here's the field at the womens world championships showin' who's got it going on under the kilt...

So you can see that both sox/no sox works just fine.

I know this request was really targeted at the women , so I ask your indulgence while I have fun with it, since my Mrs. refuses to go anywhere near anything tartan.

yay, one for the ladies! get outta here, guys!
I like that this post is for the women of X-marks.
I prefer something feminine or comfortable, preferably both.
I really like these five-fingered shoes. They're comfortable and worth the funny look to me:

Here are some other choices that have been successful for scottish events:

I like something I can move in. Best wishes!

I must admit they do cause one to have a funny smile the first time you see them.

I've been wearing these for over three years, and for the last three months or so, I've hardly worn enything else.
I used to say that these should only be worn wile kilted when the public at large won't see you. Now, however, I have a different take on it. When it's super hot (or I'm super tired), I WILL wear them while kilted, so long as I'm at a Scottish event.
But yes, if they're right for you (possibly a big if), you'll probably find that they're your all-time favorite footwear.

I thought about trying a pair, unfortunately I wear a 15D which is a bit larger than Vibram Five Fingers manufactures.

Emphatically NOT a look I would want. What's with the pink socks?
Victoria
Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

She likes pink socks. I know the lady, though not well. She's very nice, but I agree, the socks and boots thing is not for everybody!
