I really like that doublet! The shiny facing under the buttons is a nice detail that I haven't seen before. Is the jacket itself black or dark grey? The light might be playing tricks on my eyes...

Also, what can you tell us about your tie? I don't recognize that style...

Some people suggest that a belt not be worn with a waistcoat, but somehow the proportions of your combo is working to my eye. That being said, it might look a little less busy around the middle without it... or you could make it functional by using it for its traditional function: hang a dirk on it

At the risk of dating myself, I think it looks snazzy.

Nice Sheriffmuir doublet! The facings are unusual but give it individuality. Overall a very fine outfit.

However, I would loose the tie and use the belt for day wear without a waistcoat.

Matt's good advice to wear a cravat is worth taking. I favour a white cravat with the Sheriffmuir. This can be worn tucked into the waistcoat or outside the waistcoat, especially if trimmed with lace.

The satin facings with the mandarin collar do vaguely bring up images of a Trachten jacket in my mind...which is very cool. I like them and have often thought one would make a good kilt jacket with some minor work. I'm not a huge fan of doublets of any type, but I've seen a few good examples lately--this one included--that are makeing me change my mind.

I like the "tie" with this, though I'd prefer a solid color if I were wearing it. "Poofy"and lacy things just don't appeal to me. Some guys pull it off well, others look like they are trying to dress like Prince. I like the very clean line of this one. Very slick.

It's always good to see someone do something original. Some will like, some will not. I for one am really digging this! Even the belt with the waistcoat works pretty well. Well done Sir.

I never would have thought of this myself, of course, but it seems like an excellent suggestion! Pix (in addition to Matt's)?

Might I make two suggestions?

1. Try untucking the waistcoat. They are meant to be worn over the kilt, and thus hiding the top of the kilt.

2. While others have made positive comments about your choice of neckwear, I cannot say I am a fan of such...well, I just don't know what to call it!. You've ruled out a jabot ( for some reason ); others have suggested a cravat. My suggestion would be to just wear a black bow tie--tied by your own hands. That would look quite sharp!
