David Pope swears by the 16 oz. 5 yard knife pleat kilt, and having seen his in action I have to agree with him. It's not the weight of the kilt, but rather the amount of fabric that can make a kilt unbearably hot in the summer. The weight of the fabric can, and in my opinion, does, make a big difference in how the kilt looks and hangs. For the best of both worlds I'd recommend going with the 16 oz. kilt.
