To illustrate Jeff's point about the relation of build and camera angle while kilting, please view the two pictures below.

They are about the same size, were taken from about the same angle by the same person, and show the same person, belt, sporran, and hose; there have been some alterations to a few of the things pictured, between when the first and second were taken, but , and I can't stress this enough, the kilt is still the exact same length and being worn at the same place in both pictures. The bottoms of the knee caps are marked:

As you can see, the camera angle can make you see things that aren't there, under the right circumstances.

EDIT: Credit for the kilt fitting well in the second picture goes to Matt Newsome. If any of you are wondering about his tailoring skills, wonder no more.
    Ryan, I'm really impressed.

I am very surprised by the difference in Ryan's photos - while I knew distance of the kilt bottom from the knees would affect the appearance, I had no idea the difference would be so significant.

    Thank you, Ryan!

I agree with what all these guys have been saying - you look like you're fitted right for the kilt. If you're somewhat new to the kilt, maybe it feels strange to wear something up that high. I don't know of any other modern garment for males which is worn that high.
In my experience as a female, skirts are worn at a variety of heights, and one notices the difference in the appearances and feels of those.
Something I regret to see quite often at a game is when the kilt is slipping under the belly. It looks like it was fitted too loosely up top and has fallen down, or was fitted too low to begin with. Kilts are not meant to be worn as low as jeans, in a "low rise", and I think it looks tacky when they are.
Just the opinion of one young lady!

    Thank you, everybody!

I originally posted this while thinking about the "kilt anxiety" thread and trying to figure why I don't wear my kilt more often.

Sorcha is right, of course. I'm just not used to wearing something that high, and being new to the game, was seeking reassurance. I'm sure after a few more outings I'll start to not even notice.

And Ryan's photos certainly do a lot to show the camera angle aspect. Better pics than my comparison photos, for sure!

And MacMillan of Rathdown? 3 stone. Cruel, but very good observation. I could go lower than that even. My doctor wants me to! But then my one and only kilt wouldn't fit! Where's my chocolate?!

I still think most of the kilt wearers I have seen (non-pipers) at games and such have the kilt covering too much of their knee, though. Even from a distance.
