excellent fabric choice for contemporary kilt
I've written this up before, but I thought I'd perhaps do it again.
When I was working on the EarthKilt project I came across a twill fabric made of hemp and recycled polyester. I made a prototype kilt from this stuff, which sadly got sent to the Maquila in El Salvador, so I don't have it any more. However, that fabric was a dream to work with. It hangs well, it's environmentally friendlier than most, and it doesn't wrinkle. Basically, the ideal contemporary kilt fabric.
If I was to ever make another contemporary, I would spend the money and get this stuff. Here are some links...

Also available in Indigo (think "blue jeans")
There are other hemp blends, like hempcell, but I haven't worked with them.

Sounds good, but generally, I want to put my hands on fabric before buying it to make something out of it. (hides posts on Cthulu tartan...)

Makes sense, but if you ever felt like jumping in with both feet and spending the $40 it'd take to make an X-kilt from this stuff, here's my recommendation!

Alan, I have two tartan kilts to make before I can consider this. Hopefully I'll be able to find this link again when I need it! Thanks.

Alan,
That seems like pretty light fabrick. 6.5 oz seems like a very lightweight kilt. Would you double the material to get a hevier weight fabrick?

Eh? One of those Alan cited was 8.5 oz, the other 10 oz. From what I know of hemp, I expect the 10 ounce weight would do nicely.
