I use a smallish "fanny pack" or "bum bag" slung around the front when I wear either of my camouflage kilts. These are very inexpensive, this one is black, made out of cordura and by Jansport. I could see springing for a nice leather one.

It's hard to say what my favorite is. I like many of them. But the one I have been tending to wear most often these days is this one.

I like it for many reasons. I like the functional brass cantle. I like the light, buff colored leather bag. And I like the simplicity of it.

Another one that I wear quite a bit, but I don't really have a good photo of, is my Ferguson Britt Ben Glas sporran in black sheepskin. I'm wearing it in this photo.

I wear this one a lot because it is plain black leather, no frills except for the braid tassels. And it has a huge opening and can hold a lot.

I have other sporrans that I really enjoy wearing, most notably my bobcat fur one. But the two above, at least here lately, I have been wearing most often.

I would have to say my two favorite sporrans are made by Ferguson Britt. It's the Inverlochy in the bobcat fur and the black leather Duin uasal Mor. I made a version of the Inverlochy that is my favorite from my personal collection.

But if I was to wear a modern kilt. More of a punk style I would like something like this

I really like the old brass cantles. Is there anywhere I can get one?

    Without trying to be a jerk, here..Honest, I'm not...I'm asking a question/bringing up a point...

This is the modern kilt wear forum, right? So I am confused as to why quite a few guys are posting pictures and talking about rather traditional-looking sporrans here, shown against very traditional-looking tartan kilts or fabric.

Hey, you all can do that...I mean, there aren't any rules that say you can't, but it seems to me that these pictures belong in the traditional kilt wear sub-forum, or perhaps the Kilt accessories sub-forum.

Certainly the stillwater kilts leather/cordura sporran belongs here, but....?

    Thoughts?

That's a good point, Alan. What actually defines a modern sporran or a sporran for modern use? The function would be the same, wouldn't it? Or is it shape, or material, or maybe positioning?

I've just bought the 'Nightstalker' in brown leather, mainly because I needed a brown sporran. The black cordura looks like a totally different type of sporran. Is one more 'modern' than the other? I don't know. I would be interested to know what others think.

    Regards

    Chas

Honestly I think this bring up the "what's this forum about?" question.

I wrote about the sporran I wear with my entirely non-traditional camouflage kilts.....a jansport fanny pack/bum bag. The Nightstalker is a great example of another "sporran" like that.

    Here's another example...

Perhaps this might be another example, traditional in shape, but very much not traditional in execution...
