Well, somebody makes it because as recently as May of this year HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, was appointed Royal Colonel of the London Scottish Regiment. HRH attended this year's Trooping of the Colour in his Hodden grey uniform. I don't know where you live in the UK, but you could probably get a Hodden grey kilt made by Meyer & Mortimer in London, or Stewart Christie in Edinburgh. You might also try Costello & Son in Ilford, just north of London.

Aye yi yi-I even went as far as to contact the company that "supposedly" had been contracted to weave the material, and they had no idea what I was talking about. I've emailed both regiments to no reply......Maybe someday...

    Try this company.

Designed to blend with the city these tweeds spring from Lord Elcho's ideas of Hodden Grey for his London Regiment. Dashing Urban Tweeds are technically advanced and take inspiration from many street hues including double yellow lines and red routes.

    http://www.dashingtweeds.co.uk/dt/tweedrange/

They state... The mills we use are able to weave small pieces as well as large bolts of cloth.

I also found this which may mean that you will not be able to get hold of the exact fabric that the regiments use.

What is the significance of the tartan?

The Regimental tartan is Hodden Grey, which has been worn since the Toronto Scottish Regiment became allied with the London Scottish Regiment in 1921. Hodden Grey, the homespun cloth known throughout Scotland, was chosen by Lt. Col. Lord Elcho of the London Scottish Regiment in 1859. He sought to avoid all interclan feeling on the subject of tartan, and as soldiers, wanted his troops to blend in with the landscape of the battlefield.

It is also referred to as the Royal Tartan because only two organizations in the world are allowed to wear it, and only with explicit permission by the Queen. The two organizations are The Toronto Scottish Regiment (Toronto, Canada), and The London Scottish Regiment - A Company, The London Regiment (London, England).
