    Spartan Tartan,
    Here's a shot of a wide sett, low-yardage kilt. It's one of Matt's 4-yard box-pleats, in the MacDougall tartan:


    And just to demonstrate how a tartan can be pleated in very different ways, I'll show you my box-pleated Carolina kilt, along with davidlpope's knife-pleated one. First, the two kilts side-by-side. They were made from the same bolt of fabric, and both made by Prof. Newsome.


    This is Mr. Pope's 6-yard knife-pleat:


    And my 4-yard box-pleat:


    This might be more than you wanted, but I think it shows how the different pleating styles work and how each has unique advantages.

    No way is that too much!!!! That's a great comparison. Thanks! I love the Carolina tartan too. They both look fantastic.

    Ideally I would have several kilts in the saame tartan with all manner of pleating patterns and variety of tartan length. Sadly, I can not have "one of each".
