On a side note, anyone have any experience with a Kirsten Pipe?
I know exactly what you mean. The original postings got me rummaging through the garage to find where my pipes were packed up from the last move (I'd been smoking cigars exclusively for the last decade or so.) Since then I've smoked my favorite Peterson twice. Like KS, I tend toward the English-style unflavored blends.
Streetcar, I owned a Kirsten, and while its interesting design, I wasn't that enamored with it. Mainly I remember it being a bit of a pain to clean due to all the moisture in the body. I think in the end mine broke - snapped where the bowl screws into the body, and I didn't bother to get it fixed. Much prefer Peterson system pipes, some similar concepts, but old-school time-tested design.
Best regards,
Jake

My 3 kids bought me my first pipe for Christmas last year. It is a Randy Wiley. When my Lovely Bride asked me what I wanted for Christmas, my 6 year old, Morgan Kelly, heard me say that I really wanted a pipe. Without missing a beat she stated "Daddy, you can't smoke a pipe, you don't wear glasses and read books". Out of the mouths of babes!
I mostly smoke a blend that the local guy makes up. It is wonderful. I enjoy it every morning after I get my field crews out.

I love a cigar a couple of times a year. I used to smoke a pipe in the winter, however since the move to FL, I am pretty sure there will be no cold night to enjoy. I had about 5 pipes, but some how only one made the move. Mostly cheap-o's, and of course one corn cob, and a little one I picked of in MO once that I would always take into the woods for deer season. I used a couple of local blends back how, just found some good smoke shops down here, might have to pick up a new pipe soon. Nothing like a good pipe, never had one while kilted, oh that may be as good as .......better leave that alone the wife might read this.

Pipes
I enjoy my new church warden pipe.
The much longer stem in a delight as it cools the smoke offering a light and swetter flavour for me. Tobacco in my old pipe was burning hot and the smoke only had a little way to travel through the stem so it seemed more harsh that way.
I prefer Highland Scotch and lighter tobaccos.
AAAMeerschaum has wonderful pipes at great prices and great service.
If you are not a smoker like myself I think a church warden pipe is a wonderful choice.

Kilted Surveyor, that Wiley looks great! I'm envious!
Onto the churchwarden topic, I have only 1 so far and I do enjoy it. I'd like to add more to my collection.

You realize it's been in the 40's the last few nights, right? For Florida, that's unheard of anymore!

Gents,
I picked up a box of Condor Original Ready Rubbed tobacco at the duty-free shop in Shannon, Ireland as we were returning from Iraq, based on its somewhat mythic reputation. A deep sniff of the stuff, however, and I know that Lakeland style tobaccos are not for me.
If anyone does like to smoke Condor, though, I'll put it in the mail to you, no charge. First come, first serve.
Cordially,
David

I like my briar churchwarden. It curls low enough to keep the smoke out of my eyes, and the stem is good for pointing at things.
I burn mostly aromatic blends, which I buy at the tobacco shop. They put the tobacco in clear plastic bags, which I never label, so each trip to the tobacconist's is like a new experience.
I usually smoke and talk on the phone at night on my front porch, once every couple of months.
Berserkbishop,
Since you're in college, ask an art major friend to make you a bowl out of clay. Glaze and high-fire it, then fit a stem into it. They're available online, and I've used hollowed-out sticks for stems. It might not look very glamorous, but who cares about that?
Let us know what you come up with.

For Christmas my wife got me a pouch of tobacco, which was very sweet of her. When I had finished what little I had left I was going to give it up for a while, just to save a little gold. So now I can continue to sit and enjoy my pipe from time to time
