Yes, but the kilt, just like jackets and other clothing, has evolved over time. I don't wear a belted plaid for the same reason I don't wear gauntlet cuffs.

Ok, I think its best if we agree to differ on this one as we are not appearing to to be getting very far!

Agreed. You stick with your cuffs, and I'll stick with mine. As long as we're in tweed, who cares? Now, may I pour you a Talisker?

Yes we Americans are usually trainable but a tad slow to give up our preconceived notions... lucky for us that Jock Scot is very patient and persistent.

Thanks Jock...and everybody, this is a good thread.
I have one houndstooth tweed jacket. I wear it rather a lot, considering. I modified it from a sportscoat and while it's not perfect I think I did a decent enough job. At some point it will be replaced by a very plain charcoal tweed jacket, as I can't think of a more versatile jacket. That is going to be a very nice jacket and I'm sure it will cost a mint, so I'm in no hurry. Meanwhile, my houndstooth tweed does fine.
I'm in the "simpler is better" camp, personally so I won't opt for gauntlet cuffs and so on. I also really don't like patterned tweeds...windowpane and so on. Not that I think they're bad or wrong, somehow, just that they're not for me. So plain charcoal it will be.
Jock, I promise to not fret over my tie and hose and flashes and whether they perfectly match each other.
Thanks, everybody.

Steady on Alan! Fretting is not good for the health, so I am told. Lol
